Automatic determination of the pulse wave velocity in a body segment

This Bachelor´s thesis deals with a propagation of a pulse wave velocity in different body segments and its measurement through bioimpedance. In connection with this topic, the work includes a profound description of a pulse wave and its velocity in regards to diagnostics and prevention of cardiovascular diseases that have been prevailing in recent years. During the process of determination of PWV, ECG is recorded, as it helps to accurately estimate the relevant transition times and the reulting PWV. The main purpose of this work is to validate that PWV can be determined without supportive ECG signals, what as a result makes the whole process simpler, more effective and available. The main target of this work has been successfully achieved and the algorithm for an evaluation of transition times and determination of PWV is described in the work. Moreover, the algorithm is implied to the structure of GUI in Matlab programm where the interface has been designed to suit the user´s needs to analyse PWV. Highlighting the validation process and functionality of the algorithm, signals from 21 subjects have been used to assess some of the most frequent analysed PWVs and all average values of velocities are within a physiological range from 5 m/s to 15 m/s. cfPWV is considered as a golden standard when it comes to PWV and the average value for all 21 subjects has been estimated to 7,54 m/s what corresponds with values from scientific studies that have been assessing cfPWV.
Nutrigenomics and diseases of civilisation

The aim of the first part of this bachelor´s thesis is to explain and describe the basic terms which were used as diseases of civilisation, gen, genome, nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics. The second part of this work focuses on the characterization and description of some of the most often occurring diseases of civilisation in this world as obesity, diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular diseases and it has to point at possible causes of their formation and prevention. In the following chapters knowledge and practises of nutrigenomics were used during searching for the reasons of formation and prevention of civilisation diseases. Nutrigenomics is relatively a young discipline of science and only future research and monitoring will show its possible meaning in the future. The main goal of this work was to summarize and clearly demonstrate information about given theme from various information sources.
Effective components of dietary supplements and their relation to treatment of illness.

This bachelor’s thesis is aimed at effective components of dietary supplements in relation to prevention and treatment of civilization illnesses. In thesis are defined basic terms as food supplement, dietary supplement and more. In particular chapters are described characteristics of civilization illnesses and metabolic, physiologic and other changes that are coincidental sign of these diseases. Mentioned are also risk factors of illnesses and summarized dietary and other recommendations to prevent outbreak of disease, or to delay its formation. To each civilization disease are assigned dietary supplements that were studied as prospective effective compounds in prevention and cure of these illnesses. The goal was to summarize and well-arrange available informations related to given theme from various information sources.

The aim of the semester project is to learn the physiology of cardiovascular system and risk factors causing cardiovascular diseases, to understand mechanisms resulting in the development of arteriosclerosis. In second part of the semester project was made program which calculate PWV from central aortic pressure waveform.

The aim of the bachelor's thesis was to create literature research using literature sources to clarify the correlation between the consumption of n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet and also their relative proportion in the diet as a prevention or stopping the progression of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, in this thesis I have elucidated the causes of cardiovascular diseases, I have become familiar with the pathophysiology of these diseases, I have elucidated the function of polyunsaturated fatty acids (α-linolenic acid and its metabolites and linoleic acid and its resulting metabolites) in the human body and their metabolism. Finally, I made dietary recommendations resulting from lifestyle and dietary patterns as well as elucidate risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases.
Overview of the effects of selected dietary supplements on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases

The article is an overview of selected studies that dealt with the effects of long-term administration of certain dietary supplements,\nwhich are assumed to positively influence the prevention and treatment of the most serious non-communicable (chronic) diseases, which are currently mainly cardiovascular disease. Only in our country, heart diseases have been the cause of death for a long time\nalmost two-thirds of people. \nThe aim of this study was to show that despite the popularity and mass distribution of dietary supplements, their health benefits are questionable.\n
Gender differences in mortality from cardiovascular diseases in Europe

Genderdifferencesinmortalityfromcardiovascular diseases inEurope Abstract This thesis aims to analyze the difference in cardiovascular disease mortality between men and women in 21 selected European countries in the period 2001-2019. The intensity of gender differences across the selected countries is examined. With a stronger emphasis, the position of the Czech Republic within Europe is evaluated. To examine gender differences in cardiovascular mortality, the thesis uses standardized cause-specific mortality rates and a comparison of actual life expectancy with hypothetical life expectancy when cardiovascular mortality is suppressed for each country. Cluster analysis is used to identify how countries cluster together based on their similarity of health determinants. The results of the analysis showed that differences between men and women are present in all selected countries. The largest differences are found in Eastern and Central European countries.
Circadian regulation of the cardiovascular system

Circadian system consist of the main circadian oscillator and the peripheral oscillators. Their function is to enable the adaptation of living organisms to the diurnal environmental changes. Circadian system regulates rhythmical expression of genes in nearly every cell of the body, thereby affecting both the physiological and behavioural processes of mammals and other animals. This bachelor's thesis summarizes a knowledge from experiments which led to the demonstration of circadian rhytms in cardiovascular system. To introduce the topic, the first discoveries of circadian rhythms in the cardiovascular system are mentioned. Then, we focus on the circadian rhythms in cardiomyocytes, vascular endothelial cells and in vascular smooth muscle cells. Another focal point of my thesis is the role of transcription factor Krüppel-like factor 15. Circadian regulation of the cardiovascular system is important for the proper function of the heart and blood vessels. Circadian disruption can cause severe pathophysiological and cardiovascular conditions, such as ventricular hypertrophy, hypertension, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction or coronary artery disease. Obesity its causes and cosequences

Obesity is one of the most common health problems in the Word. Over 500 million adults and over 40 million children are obese. The aim of this work is to summarize findings of causes and consequences of this health problem. Even though in some cases only genetic mutations are responsible for obesity for example mutation in ob gene or Prader-Willi syndrome most cases are caused by lifestyle of people -excessive food intake and insufficient physical activity. There are many health problems accompanying obesity. The most serious problems are metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The consequences of obesity are, however, not confined only to health. We can also observe the economic consequences. Financial cost of treatment of obesity and related diseases are estimated in billions of dollars. Pharmacological treatment has so far proved to be ineffective. If drugs are effective, the side effects are so severe that their use is not possible. So far, the adipose tissue hormones that regulate food intake provide the best hope.

OF BACHELOR THESIS Title of bachelor thesis: Determination of functional capacity level for executing common daily and occupational activities of individuals with cardiovascular disease. This bachelor's thesis summarizes basic information about cardiovascular diseases, its epidemiology, the most frequent causes of their onset, the most frequent types of diseases, onset risk factors and their prevalence. Subsequently, it is devoted to description of procedures, phases and goals of rehabilitation in the target group of individuals. Particular attention is payed to ergo-therapeutic intervention and options to assess functional capacity in common daily activities and activities related to occupation of individuals with cardiovascular disease. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part, consisting of literature research, summarizes basic knowledge about cardiovascular diseases, its rehabilitation and options to assess functional capacity of affected individuals in different stages of the rehabilitation process. The practical part consists of case interpretations of two patients and processes data from questionnaire-based research.
